Certificate of Accreditaion
Greg & Heidi Turton, trading as Macquarie Coaches hold a Certificate of Accredditation #24888 issued by the NSW Ministry of Transport. This accreditation means that the NSW Ministry of Transport has been presented with and has approved our management plan and systems covering:
- Driver selection criteria
- Driver monitoring program
- Vehicle maintenance plan
- Management Information Systems
Driver Selection Criteria
Drivers working for Macquarie Educational Tours must:
- Hold the appropriate licence issued by the RTA for the vehicle size being driven.
- Hold Ministry of Transport accreditation as a public passenger driver. This includes police checks into the character and suitability of their personality for the job.
- Have regular medical check ups as required by the Ministry of Transport.
- Carry an authorized log book and complete tachograph cards to enable us to monitor their driving behaviour.
- Be screened by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit as being fit and proper people to be in contact with children.
Driver Screening Procedures
Before commencing employment with Macquarie Educational tours, drivers have to give us consent to let the Department of Education’s Employment Screening Unit do a personal check on them, to determine their suitability to work with children.
Driver Monitoring Procedures
Our drivers have to obey all the relevant road rules. These are supervised by the NSW police department, the RTA and the Ministry of Transport. All our vehicles are fitted with driver monitoring devices which measure and record speeds that the vehicle was traveling at any given time and the length of time that the driver has been at the wheel for. These records are kept on file for at least 2 years.
Vehicle Safety Systems
Macquarie Educational Tours only uses seat belt equipped coaches. Like all coach companies we sometimes use vehicles supplied by subcontractors. In this case we stipulate that we only want seat belt equipped coaches.
Vehicle Maintenance Programs
In general terms it is our policy to do preventative (or pre emptive) maintenance rather than repair breakdowns. As each vehicle has an individual maintenance schedule, it would not be practical to even try to detail it here. Sufficient to say that our maintenance plan has to be approved b y the Ministry of Transport whose job it is to monitor the safe operation of tour all NSW buses and coaches. When hiring coaches from other companies then, we make sure that we only hire from coach operators accredited by the NSW Ministry of Transport.
Public Risk Insurance
Macquarie Educational Tours has a current Public Risk Insurance Policy with a maximum limit of $10,000,000 cover. This policy is currently with the Australian Bus and Coach Underwriting Agents.
